Funding For Service Trips

I want to participate in a Habitat For Humanity's Global Village trips. In particular, the group going to Mongolia for two weeks. The problem is, it will cost $3000-$4000US ($4500-$6000CDN+). How does one go about funding such trips?

Funding options!
hey =)

Mainly, it depends on how much time you want to invest into a possible fundraising campaign. There are a bunch of people that you could speak to. I suggest you contact CIDA, the Canadian International Development Agency, to see if there are any options for funding through them. Apart from that I encourage you to go see groups in your area, explain to them the project that you want to do, and explain how they can help you do this and what they'll get out of it. One idea is to make up a sort of pamphlet or guide explaining these things so that you can show it to people. You may find that people are receptive and will help you attain your goal.

I suggest you also look online for funds associated with youth and sustainable development. A personal fundraising campaign on your part could be really cool because I'm sure it'd be a learning experience, and you could potentially get a bunch of groups / organizations on board if you can convince them of the relevance/importance of your action.

Good luck =)

Fundraising can be Intimidating at first…
The hardest part about fundraising is actually starting. I’m speaking from experience here…but once you get started, it goes much, much smoother. But be prepared to get turned down A LOT, but don’t let it get to you. When you first start, maybe you’ll tell 25 organizations/companies about what you’re fundraising for. From the 25, only 10 will answer you back!! And from the 10 only 2 will actually give you money!! But you know what, those 2 was well worth it! So the key to fundraising is persistent.

Try contacting Rotary club of Canada, or Lions club. That’s who I first contacted when I was fundraising for my trip, which was about $3,500. Oh and Habitat for Humanity is a GREAT, GREAT organization. I partly worked/volunteered with them last summer, in Saskatchewan, building houses for families that didn’t have money.
